The Whale Galaxy

The Whale Galaxy

On 2019-03-30, from Dângău Mare, I imaged the Whale galaxy, a well known target. I used my N 150/750, Baader MPCC Mark III, Canon 1100D mod, HEQ5 setup, with the IDAS LPS D2 filter in place, and captured 26×4 minutes at ISO 3200. It was surprisingly easy to process the resulting images.

Cross eye Moon globe

As you probably know the technic, cross your eyes until the two pictures meet in the middle and try to look at that middle image. It will be a „sphere”.

Jupiter with E, I and G

Using my standard planetary setup, the 150/750 tube, an ADC and the ASI224MC, I imaged Jupiter. (tovább…)

Jupiter 2019-03-02

Jupiter is very low on the ecliptic and very far from opposition. This make the giant planet I was able to successfully image before (like this, in 2015, around Gemini-Cancer-Leo), a very difficult target for the beginning of this year’s season.

Messier 67 – 2019-02-23

M 67

From within the city, by the rising moon, I acquired 30×30 seconds, ISO 3200 of the M67. The gear was the usual, N 150/750, Baader MPCC Mark III, Canon 1100D mod, HEQ5, with the IDAS LPS D2 filter. There was light, lamps and a glowing sky (the Pleiades, high up, barely visible to the naked eye) from all over the place, so this is the best I could squeeze out of the conditions.

It is not a remarkable photo target, but the cluster is well studied. It is about the age of the Sun, one of the oldest open clusters known, and scientists think it has lost ninety percent of its mass, and currently has „only” 1400 solar masses. In comparison, the Rosette Nebula is estimated to have 10 thousand solar masses.  M67 is at around 2600-2900 light years away.

Venus and χ Oph

Venus and chi Oph

This morning Venus stood, for a few hours, very close to a relatively bright star, χ Ophiuchi, and it really looked like Venus suddenly got a moon. The conjunction lasted only a few hours, and at around 9 am I could have imaged something even closer, but you know, it’s daylight at 9am. The picture below is a composite of several exposure levels, with Venus also recorded as a separate frame at a higher magnification, to get a smoother look. The instruments: ASI 224 MC @ N 150/750 on the HEQ5. Bad seeing due to the city looming underneath the view.

Earlier I had the opportunity to see many Jupiter-Venus close conjunctions. Like this and this.

Jól kalibrált monitoron mindegyik számnál elkülönülő árnyalat látszik. Ha mégsem látszanak, akkor a megjelenített képek színhiányosan rajzolódnak ki. A monitort valószínűleg kalibrálni kell.

You should see distinct shades for each number. If those shades are not clearly visible, the displayed pictures will lack accuracy. Your display most likely needs to be calibrated (brightness, gamma, contrast etc.).
