The Sun on 2021-06-15, in Hα, reprocessed

The funny detail here is that, compared to my recent photos, this  is pretty much the first time I tried the setup, and if my memory serves, without the reducer, which turned out to be a key addition in the current setup. EQ3, Lunt LS60T Ha B600, ASI 178MM (cooled). Also, at this moment in time, basically setting up the ersatz-obsi, there was little to no control devices, manual focus, no cooling on the camera etc. So in a way, this is a first light event. Also, digging out these old photos is aided by a librarian-script I wrote, because why not, and what else to do, asked the philosopher.

A black Sun on 2023-01-06, in CaK

In order to obtain my hallmark blue-violet-ish Sun, with the active regions as white, I obtain the brighter-than-average information, long story short, this picture below. While this is usually nothing more than the saturation layer negative I use, now I publish it, cause why not, it looks awesome. Actually, I’ve seen quite many „black suns” that were negatives, curved in weird ways, especially for hydrogen alpha, a sloppy way to deal with the prominences that are much fainter than the bright limb. The Sun below is neither. It is >>the Sun<< in normal light, minus the boring part, which I also posted, for reference.

Sunshine with a Plane, 2023-01-06

Coincidentally this was the first light of my soapbox guider’s newest version, which automatically applies predefined instrument image transformations, to make sure the buttons move the celestial object’s camera image as intended, left is left, without cognitive load, regardless of the zenith flipping, zenith mirror etc.

You should see distinct shades for each number. If those shades are not clearly visible, the displayed pictures will lack accuracy. Your display most likely needs to be calibrated (brightness, gamma, contrast etc.).
